从来觉得英语不过是一个沟通工具，所以当我见到有如“英语爱好者”之类的词都总是忍俊不住，正如当看到“是吧拿爱好者”一样。这个工具来到中国被赋予了更深意义，正如韩寒的【通稿2003】里面提到，曾经有“专家”说“现在的中国人的素质应该用英语水平去衡量”这般荒谬可笑。国人乐此不疲为彰显“素质”因而事无大小都来个中英对照，餐厅到超市，个体户到政府部门。然水平不够又想装高级，便只好借助翻译机，最后却弄得贻笑大方。

新近爆出有“某市行政中心的办公室门牌”，反映了政府部门的“素质”低下之余，还让人充分感受到翻译机的幽默感，乱译之余还把译不出来的字通通来个拼音当英文。

我也选用Google和Yahoo!的翻译功能试翻这堆门牌，结果如下：

市人大第二会议室

Google的翻译明显比Yahoo为好（也许因为Google可由网友提供更佳翻译所致），但翻译机毕竟是器械式的翻译，不可能做到无误，尤其是一些很“中国式简写”的词语如“信访”“XX工委”之类。

翻译机可以方便阅读或作初步翻译，但如果真的不懂英文就请不要用了，免得本末倒置。
